Controversy has surrounded the Women’s Movement since its very beginnings at the Seneca Falls Convention in New York in 1848. This opposition to feminism is still apparent today. Throughout American history, many have debated over the definition of feminism. Even now, historians and politicians are unsure of what it means to be a feminist. In 1913, activist Rebecca West explained, â€Å"I only know that people call me a feminist whenever I express sentiments that differentiate me from a doormat.† West was not exactly sure what feminism was, similarly to many other women and men at the time. The company invests more on the design of the product and the store, product distribution and guaranteed quality of the goods hat it manufactures. It specializes in a wide variety of brands such as the Cotton On Body, Typo, T- Bar, Cotton On Kids, Factorie, Free and some other brands that serve consumers belonging to different ages and with varied preferences. The brands such as Cotton On kids and Supre are gaining much prominence in India. Ethical sourcing by placing extensive value upon the supplier base and working closely with the suppliers is one of the main tenets of the company (Woll 2014). Ethical production and distribution are the chief factors of the organization. The company has ensured long term partnerships with India having the share of 2.32 % in terms of supply and one of the major partners of the Cotton On Group. The suppliers of the company form the backbone of Cotton On Group (Gupta 2015). Justified working hours, a strict no to discrimination and labor harassment, a valid business license and safe working conditions make the production and distribution processes of the company ethical. The Cotton On Group tries to reduce the cost of the air freights for sustainable transportation and distribution, therefore now it is placing more focus upon transportation of the goods by sea as it will lower the cost of distribution and supply and ultimately will help the company to maintain its pricing strategy (Perry et al. 2014). Philippines: a Laggard of Tourism and Aviation in Southeast Asia? Essay The Philippines has been known as a hub of Southeast Asia up until the mid-1960s. With Philippine Airlines as the country’s major flag carrier, many countries and airlines wanted to be like the Philippines. Unfortunately, some events led to the downfall of the tourism and aviation of the country thus leading to the country’s current situation: a laggard in tourism and aviation. Before the start of this paper, definition of terms would be provided for hub, laggard, tourism and aviation. The National Aeronautics and Space Administration defines hub as an airlines base of operations. An airlines hub is at an airport that houses a large number of its aircraft each night and is the origin of a large number of the airlines connecting flights. (National Aeronautics and Space Administration, 2011) The Chartered Institute of Marketing defines laggard as those who are last to adopt a new product or service. (The Chartered Institute of Marketing, 2011) The United Nations World Tourism Organization defines tourism as the activities of people travelling to and staying in places outside their usual environment for not more than one consecutive year for leisure, business and other purposes not related to the exercise of an activity remunerated from within the place visited. (United Nations World Tourism Organization, 2011) NASA also defines aviation as the operation of heavier-than-air aircraft also considered to be the design, development and manufacture of aircraft. There are three types of aviation: general, commercial and military. National Aeronautics and Space Administration, 2011) The Philippine Airlines, known before as Philippine Airways, Inc. , started its operation on February 26, 1941 with a starting capital of Php 500,000. It was established through the joint efforts of Juan M. Elizalde, Andres Soriano, Former Senator Ramon Fernandez, Schultz and Ernestto von Kauffmann. The airlines competed with Iloiloi-Negros Air Express Co. , Inc. (INAEC) with its Beech Model 18 NPC-54 from Manila to Baguio and from Baguio to Manila. By July 31, 1946, PAL became the first Asian airline which operated across the Pacific through the use of a Douglas DC-4 from Trans-Ocean Airline to fly between Manila and Oakland that took 41 hours to complete. After that milestone, continuous increases in the capital of the company have occurred. PAL bought more aircrafts and more destinations like Europe have been added to their list of services. PAL became the first Asian airline to operate to Europe and so more and more airlines in the Southeast Asian region look up to PAL. But amidst all of the achievements made by PAL, the country still lagged behind other Asian countries. Foreign countries like the US and Germany establish airlines in other Asian countries which offer better services compared to PAL. PAL, being the first Asian airline and got nothing to base its ideas from, hired its own staff, cabin attendants, service personnel, maintenance staff and other needed people to make the airline operate as smooth as possible. Many of the money that should be used to make their services and aircrafts better went to the training of their staff and to their salaries. From that, foreign airlines learned how to utilize their resources. They opted to outsource some of their employees therefore using less amount of money for training and such. A couple of problems have shaken the state of PAL and the country and tested its strength. Things like the suspension of PAL’s international operations due to economic issues, the continuous accidents involving the aircrafts of PAL in a single year, the Martial Law, the assassination of Benigno â€Å"Ninoy† Aquino, Jr. the numerous coup d’etats during the term of former President Corazon Aquino, competitions with other emerging airlines, a number of strikes among PAL employees and others have affected the services of PAL and the tourism state of the country. Foreigners became scared, if not more careful, about going to the country. With the politics-re lated issues that occurred in the country, more and more people tend to visit other countries which are in the Southeast Asian region as well. The economy seemed to be a problem as well. Problems like the Asian Financial Crisis and the weakening of the Peso compared to the Dollar affected the tourist arrivals in the country. Another thing that could be a factor as to which the Philippines remains to be a laggard in aviation is due to the fact that there are too many airlines in the country that instead of helping each other to make the country’s aviation better, chose to compete with each other. In addition to that, the continuous privatization and nationalization of PAL affected its operations and reputation due to the changes in the management and such. Since PAL couldn’t fire their other staffs, like the flight attendants, it could be concluded that somehow, that affects the â€Å"reputation† of PAL. Most, if not all, airlines commonly use younger flight attendants. If it would be compared to the older flight attendant of PAL which are assigned at the business class section of several flights, other airlines would really have more edge on this aspect. As for the tourism side of the issue, the country is truly blessed with abundant resources that could be considered as tourism assets. Tourism became an asset for the country. As a matter of fact, many Southeast Asian countries envy the country due to its assets and its economy. â€Å"Economically, the Philippines was the envy of other South East Asian countries. From 1950 until 1960, the average growth of the GDP was 6. 5 percent. In contrast, Thailand, Indonesia, and Malaysia only grew by 5. 6 percent, 4. 0 percent, and 3. 6 percent respectively. The following decade, the country still expanded at an average of 5. 1 percent. While decent, other countries began to catch up but we still held on to our lead. † (Philippine Online Chronicles, 2011) Unfortunately, events like the Martial Law and the rising international debts of the Philippines led to the slow downfall of the country. Up until now, the country couldn’t cope up with the challenges from the past. Numerous administrations have passed by but it could be seen that â€Å"every time the country would accelerate towards progress, it hits a brick wall†. (Philippine Online Chronicles, 2011) Quoting the words of DOT Secretary Jimenez, Somewhere in Thailand and Vietnam and Malaysia some people are very worried about what were about to do. They know we havent got the budget, can you figure out why (theyd be worried)? The answer can only be, the Filipinos have always beaten them with less. Always.   (ABS-CBN News, 2011) Among the factors that could be considered as to which the Philippines became a laggard in tourism are the low quality and number of airports, roads and other infrastructure. Infrastructures that are fully developed are often found in the urban areas of the country. Unfortunately, most of the â€Å"hidden† tourist destinations are found in the rural areas of the country and the roads that tourist should undergo are not that good. Most of the world-class tourism destinations of the country are located outside Metro Manila. We need to facilitate the travel of tourists from their point of origin to the final tourism destinations and thus there is a need to improve the tourist facilities in the major airports of Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao, Cerilles said. (House of Representatives, 2011) To start these improvements, the government must see to it that the airports of the country are fully equipped and must be presentable to the tourists since the airports are the gateways to the country. A not good looking airport could make tourists stop visiting the country because these airports give the tourists a bad first impression for the country. As of the moment, there are no Philippine carriers which have a direct to the Middle East and Europe and if ever that PAL could restore its services there or if other airlines in the country would try to take a risk at servicing in those areas, it could be a big help for the country. Promotion is also a big help for the country. If the government and the citizens of the country would help each other in promoting the different tourist attractions in the country, chances would be that the tourist arrivals in the country would increase. As other people may say, word of mouth is a good tool in promoting. A good slogan or tagline for the country would help the country as well. It must show what the country could offer to the tourists not just from other countries, but tourists that live in the Philippines as well. To sum everything up, the country has lots of potentials to grow and to become more successful in both aviation and tourism. It’s just a matter of proper allocation of attention and support not just from the government but from the citizens of the country as well. If the public and the private sector would work together, then the country could go a very long way. People must set aside their own motives and help in making the country more popular especially tourism wise since tourism could generate a lot of jobs thus satisfying the need of the public sector as well as the private sector. The country is blessed with numerous assets. It’s not just the natural resources but the people living in here as well could be considered as assets so Filipinos should stand up and make a move in bringing the Philippines back to the top. Only this time the people walking are in a more loving situation. Also there are two women. The women obviously feel love for each other because they are holding each others hands. The fact that they are both wearing black gowns straight away gives us an idea of why these two women have come back this way. Also this is the first time we see Elizabeth- Jane in her grown up state and we see that she is brought up as a very nice girl. Although we see straight away that she is brought up in a rich lifestyle when she tells her mother that the infirmity tent isnt respectable. At this point e see for the first time that Hardy adds suspence when he decides to bring Susan back to Micheal. The reader wonders why Susan is so determined to meet him. He main question is why ahs Susan never told Elizabeth when she is old enough to know. Casterbridge is described in great detail and because Hardy has a gift for description we can almost see the town come to life. We also find that the town is eager to spread gossip when two women willingly tell Susan about the gossip of the bread and the town. We can see from detailed point that the public will be a very important point in the book. Micheal also reveals his caring point when he tells the towns people that the wheat is not really safe to eat. We also se that Micheal is true to his oath not to drink, when in his meeting he only drinks water. Near the end of the meeting we see the Angry Micheal side when he makes a sharp retort. We see a description of Farfrae and immediately we can tell that he is the total opposite of Henchard. Both in looks and we think in personality. Also through the names of the pubs and inns we can see that maybe Hardy is trying to make a point. When they go to the three mariners then Hardy could be trying to say that they are among the waves of chance. The fact that chance plays a big role in this novel and especially in this chapter. Its by chance that Farfrae hears about the corn and has the solution or that Elizabeth-Jane notices him and that they all stay at the three mariners. Also the way Michael misses his family by a few minutes on his way to see the man. We can assume that Hardy is proving the powers working against mankind in this chapter. In this chapter we see little irony when Elizabeth-Jane says that they must stay at the fancy inn yet then gets a job as a serving maid which is not too respectable it self. While we can say that Elizabeth-Jane is making sacrifices for her mother, we can still remember that the towns people have seen Elizabeth serving them and they will remember her face later on. Also in this chapter we pity Michael when we learn that he is lonely and we guess that what he wants is a business partner or a friend. Farfrae is straight away the person that comes to mind. Though again we see a bit of fickleness in Michaels attitude when he cannot even remember the old mangers name. Farfrae then decides to sing fro the towns people and its by chance that the people are in the mood for his sad songs and Elizabeth-Jane who has been eyeing him, has her heart set on him. When the townspeople talk to Farfrae we know straight away that he has the ability to charm people and when he sings he is charmed them further. We can assume that the reason that the townspeople like the sad songs is because they feel like the story of the song represents them in a way, with their lost ideals. We can even see a bit of this in Micheal himself. Also Elizabeth-Jane misinterprets the songs that Farfrae sings and when her mother says he Elizabeth assumes its about Farfrae. These misunderstandings prove to be a problem later on. In the next chapter wee that both Susan and Micheal have to turn towards the younger generation to save themselves. Susan saves her marriage by sending Elizabeth-Jane with the note to Micheal and Micheal saves his business by begging Farfrae to say on as manager. When Elizabeth-Jane takes the walk through the town it creates a time of suspense because it is stalling the meeting between Micheal and Susan and it cuts the conversation between Micheal and Farfrae. Mostly though it shows us just how much power Micheal ahs in his town socially and business wise. Again we see a contrast between Michaels sides when at first he acts kindly towards Elizabeth-Jane, when he learns who she is. Also when he sends back Susan five guineas we feel that he is almost trying to buy her back since five guineas are how much was paid for her before. Yet we see his cold side again when he coldly turns down Joshua Jopp about his interview and he has created a new enemy at the same time. Later also Micheal explodes on Elizabeth-Jane and cannot even calm himself down. Also in this chapter we see a proud side of Michael when he asks to see Susan in a secret place and will not see her in public incase they might be seen and found out. Slowly we will see this part of his attitude be a big part of his downfall. In the next chapter when Micheal has asked to see Susan in the ring and we get the description of the place it automatically sets a place for something negative to take place. Almost a place where nothing positive can happen. Hardy backs this himself by saying, the boys cannot make this a good cricket field. This ring is maybe meant to show Hardys life in a way that Hardy is known for his architecture and his liking to the Greek mythology in a way. The Roundness representing the coliseum and the positiveness being kept away by ghosts of the past like the killed gladiator or the woman who was strangled. This is like a metaphor in a way to their relationship. Micheal will fall in battle and his control is so tight on Susan it might almost be strangling her. The next chapter gives us an idea of our speculation is chapter 3 about another woman in Micheals life. We learn that this woman is infact living in Jersey. We already know that when a person is included in Hardys plots he is never easily forgotten so when we hear about this woman we straight away know she will affect the plot. Again this chapter reveals a lot when Micheal reveals to his best friend that he is very lonely and would like a friend. We guess straight away that he ahs also made a mistake when he reveals his whole past to someone he has only known for a day. He tells Farfrae everything and doesnt think of any consequences that could later occur. We see Farfrae first ability in this chapter after he handles his position very well with his new boss. Even though he has plans to eat alone he decides to dine with Micheal and when he is asked about help on how to handle his problem with the lady in Jersey he gives an answer that could start the first sign of discord between the two people. He tells Micheal that he should firstly tell Elizabeth-Jane the truth about her mother and father and he disagrees and gets rather angry. Yet he forgets that it was him who in the first place told him about all his past secrets. In this chapter we finally see Micheal openly court Susan and then propose to her. Even though this should be good new the whole chapter caries ill will which is mostly carried by the townspeople. We can maybe use the natures reaction to show out the feelings of Micheal and Susan. When the two enter the church to get married it is raining quite badly and it is very dark almost showing how the two really feel about each other. Hardy uses these nature effects to show the reader how the two feel about each either. By hiding the meaning of the nature effects it almost showing that the two have hidden their feelings about each other. The townspeople also add most of the uneasiness. They dont actually know the secret about the wedding but they have an idea that something is not right. Character Analysis: Brutus William Shakespeare's play, The Tragedy of Julius Caesar, was mainly based on the assassination of Julius Caesar. The character who was the mastermind behind the assassination was, ironically, Marcus Brutus, a senator and close friend to Julius Caesar. But what would cause a person to kill a close friend? After I examined Brutus' relationship towards Caesar, his involvement in the conspiracy and his importance to the plot it all became clear. Brutus had one particular reason for killing Caesar and that was for the good of the people and the republic. Brutus had no personal reason for killing Caesar. Some of his most admirable traits were his morality and leadership skills. Brutus had a strong relationship with Caesar but a stronger relationship with Rome and its people. I think during Roman times, the only way for someone to get close to a person of high rank is if he/she is a close friend or relative to him/her. Brutus loved Caesar but feared his power and ambition. In the early acts of the play, Brutus says to Cassius, "If it aught toward the general good, set honor in one eye and death in the other, and I will look on both indifferently†¦,,"(act 1, scene 2, ll.85-89), as he is speaking to Cassius. "He then unto the ladder turns his back..."(act 2, scene 1, line 25). As the quote says, Brutus would not allow Caesar to rise to power and then turn his back on the people of Rome. This is the only reason Brutus would conspire against Caesar. Brutus says to himself, "I know no personal cause to spurn at him...How that might change his nature..."(act 2, scene 1, and ll.11-13) Caesar's connection and relationship with Brutus was also very strong. If an American government official announces that childhood obesity is reaching epidemic proportions, it is completely unethical for that person to then endorse an unhealthy snack with their name and picture. The person that chooses to endorse unhealthy snacks but makes their living preaching against their sponsor is being an unethical representative of the company that is paying them to endorse the product and is sending a mixed message when on the job. The real ethical violation here is in business ethics. The man in the example is being paid to endorse an unhealthy snack. By accepting that contract, he has agreed to give his name and support to the product. To then preach against it from the pulpit of a government position is a violation of their contract with the business and a violation of their commitment to their job. Theoretically, if he is speaking out about childhood obesity in the course of his job, then he has a position related to the health of the nation. To the turn around and endorse an unhealthy project violates his contract with the American public to promote healthy behavior. In short, anyone who argues that childhood obesity is an epidemic and then endorse unhealthy snacks is the worst kind of hypocrite. This person is taking money from both sides of the argument and cannot effectively represent either side. He has stolen from both his government employer and from his snack time employer, failing to do what either of them paid him for. In that instance, he should be fired from both jobs and sued by both employers for fraudulently accepting their money.

A woman who appeared to be in mid-thirties explained: â€Å"l read that this yoga is the best out there because the heat helps you push out all your toxins, you know, because you sweat so much. I also read that you burn Just a ton of calories which is good because I don't have all the time in the world to spend at the gym. Another, who appeared to be in her twenties and in good physical shape, told her story: â€Å"I was always really active and played mostly soccer but I tore my CAL a couple years ago and I can't do all the things I used o. A friend of mine, kind of a granola girl, brought me here and I have been coming ever since! I always feel like I had a really good workout but I don't feel like I'm stressing any part of my body too much. † In asking a woman who let me know that she was sixty-five why she considered Buckram yoga to be a benefit to her she said: â€Å"My doctor suggested I try to be more physically active but I'm not the girl I used to be†¦ ‘m not able to do much really and I'm unwilling to subject myself to water aerobics. He [the doctor] is concerned about my blood pressure and my stiffening mints. When he told me about Buckram yoga I about died right there imagining doing something like this in that kind of heat! But I gave it a go, of course I have to bring in a stool to help me balance and I don't do every pose, but I think it's helping. I feel a different take on Buckram yoga from the physical payoffs: â€Å"I'm a new mom and my maternity leave ended a few weeks ago. Being from Phoenix, Arizona I am no stranger to heat but in this classroom the air is thick and Just bordering on difficult to breathe for me.The lights are low and there are already students lying on their back in savanna position. No one sp eaks in the room as it assumed to be a peaceful place f meditation. Class begins when the instructor turns the lights on and introduces herself. The instructor makes a point of asking if there is anyone in the room new to Buckram yoga, congratulates them for coming and reminds them to stay in the room, lie on their mats if need be and to have fun. We go through all twenty-six poses, including the breathing exercises, with her dispensing instruction as we ease into each new movement.She also reminds us all to focus on our gaze in the mirror and that our bodies our stronger than our minds are at times so getting through class will quire determination on our parts. For safety reasons students are allowed to drink water as they please but it is discouraged to drink outside of the designated times and while the class in the midst of a pose. However, once the class is finished you can observe the majority of people gulping water hurriedly before getting into the final savanna which conclu des the sequence and allows time for personal meditation.While I lay in silence I find myself agreeing with the major points my interviewees offered: Buckram yoga is a tough but gentle workout for people of all levels and remotes a sense of personal well-being and calm that very few workouts I have tried do. This, however, was Buckram Shuddery aim all along. Due to the anger of Cassius, the whole of the play deals with the betrayal of Caesar by Cassius, and there are examples of this before and after his death. The first betrayal of Caesar can be looked at in the very beginning of the play, when Flavius and Marcillus sends the commoners away, and then proceed to take scarves off of the statues celebrating Caesar. They make the comment, â€Å"These growing feathers pluck’d from Caesar’s wing will make him fly an ordinary pitch,† (Act 1, Scene 1). In other words, the two conspirators feel that by sending away Caesar’s followers will give Caesar a reality check of sorts, and to bring his ego down a peg. The next example of betrayal can be seen by Cassius working to get Brutus to his side, away from believing in Caesar. He does this by first sending him a fake letter, and then proceeds to tell him about why he is so upset, and that he feels betrayed by Caesar. He tells Brutus about a time before when they were swimming across the Tiber river and Caesar was almost drowning, calling out, â€Å"Help me, Cassius, or I will sink! † (Act 1, Scene 2). He describes how he saved Caesar’s life, then tells Brutus, â€Å"and this man is now become a god, and Cassius is a wretched creature and must bend his body,† (Act 1, Scene 2). This would be describing Cassius bowing down to Caesar as a king, even though he had saved his life. Most of the betrayal in this story is fairly upfront, until Act 3, after Caesar is killed. His friend Mark Anthony acts as though he is betraying Caesar, in order to take his later revenge. When he first arrives at the murder scene, he shakes hands with all of the conspirators that have killed Caesar, even though their hands are covered with blood. He then comments, â€Å"Shall it not grieve thee dearer than thy death to see thy Anthony making his piece, shaking the bloody fingers of thy foes, most noble! In the presence of thy corpse? † (Act 3, Scene 1). He is actually speaking to the spirit of Caesar. Anthony plays this part of fake betrayal to Caesar, continuing by agreeing to Brutus that he will not say anything bad about him after Brutus gets done speaking at the funeral of Caesar. Yet, the true betrayal happens when Anthony begins to discount everything Brutus has just said to the citizens, and he turns the citizens against Brutus and the other conspirators. The citizens become enraged as they feel that their leader, Caesar has been betrayed by the killers. The last example of betrayal can be seen as family betrays family. In Act 5, there is a conversation between Lepidus, Octavius, and Mark Anthony. The first family betrayal is when Lepidus consents to have his brother killed along with the other conspirators. Octavius asks Lepidus, â€Å"your brother too must die; consent you Lepidus? † to which Lepidus answers, â€Å"I do consent,† (Act 5, Scene 1). The next family betrayal is when Mark Anthony then agrees that his sister’s son, Publius will be killed too. Anthony replies without hesitation, â€Å"He shall not live; look with a spot I damn him,† (Act 5, Scene 1). There are other examples of betrayal in Julius Caesar, but betrayal is a concept that the whole story is based on, interweaving between almost all the characters of the story. From the major storyline of the betrayal of Caesar, to the minor betrayals between characters which cause Caesar’s death, or betrayal that is because of it, this is ultimately the theme of the story itself.

Cozumel essays Cozumel: Ah-Cuzamil-Peten The place known as modern day Cozumel was settled over 2,000 years ago by people of the Maya Civilization. They discovered the tiny island off the Yucatan Peninsula and named it Ah-Cuzamil-Peten., meaning land of the swallows, after the native birds that live there. The island was an important trade and religious center for the Maya. Merchants used to buy the salt and honey produced on the island. The Maya considered salt and honey more valuable than gold. Historians believe that El Caracol ruin was built as an ancient lighthouse to guide the travelers safely to shore. Cozumel was also the home of the Ixchel (lady rainbow), the Moon Goddess of fertility, pregnancy and childbirth. Ixchel was one of the most important gods in the Maya religious pantheon. Every woman in Mesoamerica was required, at least once in her life, to make a pilgrimage and place an offering on Ixchels altar. Today, Ixchels ruins and ceremonial center can be seen at San Gervasio ruins. . During the early 1500s, shortly after the New World was discovered, Spain began intensely exploring. In 1518, Juan de Grijalva, the nephew to the Cuban Governor, was investigating the Yucatan Peninsula. He left Havana with 300 men and four ships. Eighteen days into his trip, he discovered Cozumel when his ship was blown off course. He mentioned the island to Hernan Cortes who arrived in 1519 in search of gold. In 1519, when Herrnan Cortes, arrived at Cozumel with 11 hips and 750 men, he found two shipwrecked Spaniards. Geronimo de Aguilar and Gonzales Guerrera had been living on the island with the Maya for over 15 years, first as slaves but then finally as citizens of the community. Legend has it that de Aguilar was so happy to be rescued that he jumped from shore and started swimming towards the Cortes ship when it was still 20 miles away. Guerrera chose to remain on the isla...
